In October, CricHQ surveyed 70,000 of our most active users to gauge the value they get from CricHQ. We asked users to critique different parts of our digital platform by rating the importance of a feature and stating the satisfaction the user has with that feature. The majority of responses were overwhelmingly positive, however an issue which users identified time and time again was the inability to find what they wanted to find. They wanted a better search function!
At CricHQ, we are proud to capture upwards of 2,000 cricket matches every week, however we admit that making those matches easy to find for the user is something we could improve on. We sent out a follow up survey to delve deeper into the search behaviour of our users in the hope to identify some key pain-points which we could target to improve user experience.
What did we find?
We found that the majority of users came to CricHQ to find scores of local matches. An analysis of search terms highlighted the fact that whilst our users believed they were searching for the TEAMS playing in the match, they were actually entering in the CLUB’S details. They also expected the matches to be ordered with most recent at the top and wanted more filter options.
So, what did we do?
Our users spoke and we listened. Our search analysis led to a number of search related improvements which were rolled out towards the end of 2016. Things we did to improve our search function include:
- Refining our search algorithm
- Prioritising ‘matches’ as the key search subject, with competitions second on the list
- Adding filters which also remember your previous searches
- Make searching for matches (in the main search bar) easier on CricHQ.com
- Ordering search results by date, making it easier to find the latest scores
What can you expect in the future?
This is only a start but we hope that it will help our users more easily find what they are looking for on CricHQ. Heading into the new year, we will keep refining our algorithm, introduce additional filters and the ability to bookmark searches and focus on improving the mobile search experience. We will also look at how our users search for other things on CricHQ, such as competitions, so that our users can find anything they want.
If the new search improvements have already made a difference, feel free to drop us a comment below. Got ideas on how we can continue to improve? Get in touch. We pride ourself on listening to our users. Just visit support.crichq.com.
